Day 13 Winter lights 2019

Today the husband. me and I and P went to the Winter Lights at Anglesey Abbey. This year we walked the other way round and there were more music with the lights. We also missed the smoke machine!

Thetford forest and Go-ape

P, E and myself went to High Lodge at Thetford Forest which is about an hour from Cambridge. I love Thetford forest although parking is expensive (although if you work out per person for a day out it is very good value! I paid £12.50 for a day (more than 4 hours!)) and the cafe isn't great  - I would recommend taking a picnic! There are lot of things (paid) to do or you could go for a walk or a bike ride on one of the many trails.
First the girls played on the lovely play equipment.

 Then we went for a walk through the lovely forest...

 ..and P enjoyed playing on the musical trail.

 The girls then went on the Treetop adventure which they loved. P got scared on one little part but managed it. They only got to round once in their hour as it was super busy which they were a little disappointed about.

30 days wild - day 22 Chalk pits

Today I went for a walk around the chalk pits. There are three distinct areas, two on the east side and one on the west side of Lime Kiln Road which I discovered for the first time this week. I loved hearing all the birds singing as they went to bed and there were a lot of moths and a couple of bats flying round as the sun set.

 

30 days wild - day 18 Ice-cream outside

We admired the flowers outside Kings as we ate our ice-cream outside.

30 days wild - Day 15 Fen Drayton Nature Reserve

Today whilst everyone else was out, I took myself out to the RSPB reserve at Fen Drayton. This former gravel quarry has been amazingly transformed by the RSPB into a thriving nature reserve with miles of beautiful walking trails. You can travel to Fen Drayton either by car, bike, on foot, or on the local guided busway because the reserve has its own stop. I drove and it was slightly tricky to find and slight;y scary as you have to drive over the guided busway and then keep going until you get to the car park.
The reserve itself it massive and I explored only a part of it! There were lots of birds - I saw lots of common turns, as well as other birds. I also found an area of lake dipping and bug hunting.

30 days wild - Day 14 Walk by the River

Whilst E was playing hockey, P and I walked into town where she had an ice-cream. We then walked back along the river where we saw ducks and moorhens.

Ickworth

Today E, P and myself went to Ickworth (NT) for a walk and then to do their Easter Trail.

 The woodland was lovely - really full of bird song!

 P tried to stroke a sheep - it was having none of it!

 We found lots of trees to climb.

 Then we stopped for a treat at the cafe. I had the scone of the month (a hot cross scone!)...

 and P and E had Hot Brownie, toffee sauce and ice-cream!

 We then did the Easter trail (an extra £2.50 per person).

 We followed the trail, looking for daffodils which the girls had to describe different items in boxes.

 We stopped to try the Trim Trail.

 We then collected the prizes!
