Spring Walk at Hatfield Forest

This afternoon we went for walk to Hatfield forest. We some deer and enjoyed spotting the new leaves coming and the blossom.

 

Easter Eggs Decoration Kit

Today the girls enjoyed decorating chocolate Easter eggs from a kit I had bought from notonthenightstreet.  It was such a fun family Easter activity! The eggs were made of good quality chocolate and there was way more chocolate drops and sweeties than needed - which the girls enjoyed 'testing'.

Legoland

Today the girls and I went to Legoland which is about an hour and a half away from Cambridge. It was a great time to go...we did to queue for a few rides but only for about 20 minutes and the weather was great!  We took a picnic to keep costs down but I did buy the girls an ice cream (£3.30 for 1 scoop!!!). The girls enjoyed all the rides. We also enjoyed the starwars exhibition and Miniland. The favourite ride of the girls was Dragon rollercoaster. Yes it was expensive (although we booked online a week before to make it slightly cheaper) and I would never want to do in the height of summer.. but the girls had a fab time (and this is my theme park limit :) ).

Cambridge Science Festival First Saturday

Today we went to the Science Festival.

We started off engineering, making a large cardboard castle (almost impossible to get home on a bike!) with working lights! P enjoyed making the circuit and E designing the castle, even utilizing spare cardboard to add an extension.

Next we went to the Chemistry Department where we enjoyed learning about hydrogen batteries for cars, turning 2p coins gold and other exciting experiments.

Lastly, we went to the Biology departments for CHaOS. The girls enjoyed biology, chemistry and physics experiments. 

Snowdrops @Anglesey Abbey

P and I enjoyed the sunshine and went for lovely walk around Anglesey Abbey looking for signs of spring!  There were snowdrops everywhere with other bulbs starting to push their way up. We enjoyed the mill and the Hoe Fen play area.

Twilight at the musuems

We visited Twilight at the Museums where 12 museums in Cambridge offer free drop-in activities for families to enjoy. We started off the Museum of Cambridge where we made candles!

 Then we moved the University Library - where although we couldn't look round the library itself we could view their 'Curious Objects' collection. It contains the more unusual objects in the Library’s history; from an ostrich feather and ectoplasm to an old boot, a boomerang, and beard hair sent to Charles Darwin. We then listened to stories and enjoyed some crafts!

Cycling home, we stopped off by the Senate House to watch the e-Luminate festival display!

London Eye and Wonderlab

We went on a day trip to London.

First at the request of E, we went on the London Eye. We didn't fast track tickets and so spent about an hour and half queueing!  However, once we finally made it on to the Eye we did have a good time and the girls enjoyed the views. It was a little hazy to the west but there were good views to the east.

Then we took the tube to the Science Museum. P is learning about space so we visited the Exploring Space gallery where we saw the full-sized replica of ‘Eagle’ – the lander that took astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin to the Moon in 1969. P enjoyed reading about how to live in space – to breathe, eat, drink and go to the toilet (E has decided not to be an astronaut any more due to the fact she may have to wear nappies in the space rocket!)

We also the saw the Soyuz TMA-19M descent module that brought Tim Peake back safely to Earth.

Then we went to floor two where we paid to visit Wonderlab - a space full of interactive science exhibits designed to inspire children. Everything in the gallery is designed to be played with or experimented on!  Highlights include the friction slides, biting on a metal prong to hear music vibrating directly into your brain and the Sip or Spray game where you sit opposite each other with a screen set up between you and have to press a button to choose whether to give your opponent a sip of water or spray them in the face. We also went to 2 live shows - one about electricity and the other about rockets! These are excellent and children (even Evie!) were called out from the audience to take part in the experiments and demonstrations. 
However, it was busy and we did have to queue to get in!
